Small update

Good afternoon,
It has been awhile since I updated you guys with how the garden is progressing. To tell you the truth I have been focusing all of my attention on the lawn, the weeds are dying back and the grass is greening up. I have taken the mower up a notch and have been looking into some seed to spread over to thicken it up.

During the winter months I'll manly focus on the building work that needs to be done, for example reroofing the old outside toilet turning it into a potting shed and installing raised beds for veg, oh and finally digging out and graveling over my parking spot so we can fit two cars on it.

I will try and keep you updated with pictures

Feed n Weed Experiment

Used feed n weed for the first time today, trying to build up a good root system and suppress those weeds and stinging nettles. Bought a 12ltr spreader from B&Q along with Evergreen 4 in 1. After loosing some of it trying to get the right setting i just managed to cover the whole garden but the bag i had was for a 200sqm lawn but mine is fractionally bigger, more 300sqm.
I'll reapply in 2 weeks and then i'll start looking into autumn feed.

Lack of motivation.

I'm taking the day off from my garden renovation because I am just lacking the motivation today. I know it's a poor excuse and a gardener should always make the most of the inclement weather, but the driving force to continue with my ivy clearance for the patio eludes me.

I did manage to finish building the log store round the back while it was dry and i just need to get some tarpaulin to cover the front.

Rain almost stopped play

The sun came out for a good couple of hours, checked the lawn and it seemed pretty dry so i thought smeg it and cut the grass.
Minutes after putting the mower away this happened

Its starting to look sexy, the brown patches are slowly greening up and i'll soon look into feed & weed and a spreader.
I've cleared some more from the bottom where the patio will be going but it's a slow and painful process as its just ivy roots.

Patio update

Good morning

Yesterday was a semi productive day, mainly down to making this blog and watching the Olympics. I managed to get most of the grass lifted and rolled but with my lack of wheel barrow, i couldnt move it anywhere and dispose of it, nore could i start on the parts that are mainly ivy growing actross the ground.

Plan for after work today is to get myself a barrow and crack on. Weather permitting that is.

Welcome

I am new to gardening.  Eight months ago I moved into a gorgeous cottage on the Caerhays Estate near St Austell, after a month of cleaning and redecoration
The garden is pretty big and hasn't been cut for a couple of years.

It was left over the winter and in march i attacked it with a strimmer as it was way too long for a mower. I left it to recover for a month and then attempted to tame it with my  other halves, cousins, lawn mower. After 3 long hours (the mower is a tad old) we have a semi-respectable lawn
For those studying these pictures you will notice that i found a shed (former outside toilet) underneath the ivy.

In May I decided to look at one of the two (due to cash) areas in front of the house

I strimmed my way through them like a man posessed and took them all the way down to the top soil. The area on the right had only about an inch of soil and then hardcore and the left one has dark loose soil.
I nipped to B&Q and brought a weed barrier and then to Wicks for 250kg of pea gravel for £14!.

Last weekend i bought my own mower from Screwfix for only £169.99
A lovely new mower needs a new shed but as i spent all my money on the mower i decided it would be a good idea to build one out of pallets

All it cost was £30 for the felt, nails and screws but i am happy with the way it turned out.

That takes us up to date but i am doing something with the bottom of the garden and ill blog that later on today.
